New Delhi [India], January 4 (ANI): BJP candidate from Malviya Nagar Satish Upadhyay hit out at Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Admi Party (AAP) and alleged that there is corruption and absence of governance in the National Capital.
He also targeted Arvind Kejriwal over his official residence when was the Chief Minister.
Responding to the announcement of his candidature from the Malviya Nagar assembly seat for the Delhi assembly polls, Upadhyay told ANI,”…The question is that there should be governance in Delhi. Delhi is probably the first capital or the first state which has everything except governance. There is corruption, there is alcohol, there is sheesh mahal but there is no governance. Look at the roads of Delhi, can we call them the roads of the capital? … The youth want employment. “
He also referred to an alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister’s residence in 2024.
He said, “Women want respect. In a state where women are not respected in the house of the Chief Minister, how can you expect respect for women there? … “
The Election Commission has yet to announce the dates for the polls.
BJP released its first list of 29 candidates for Delhi assembly elections expected to be held in February 2025. The BJP has fielded National General Secretary Dushyant Gautam from Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Kailash Gehlot from Bijwasan and former Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar among others.
The assembly elections in Delhi are likely to be held in February 2025.
Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 successive years, has performed poorly in the past two assembly polls, failing to win any seat.
AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eighth seats. (ANI)
