New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): Delhi Police have arrested a person who allegedly made a plan to extort money from jewellery shops in the Mayur Vihar area, said the police.
The accused has been identified as Badal Kumar Pathak, 25. He hails from Bihar’s Munger district and works in a Health Insurance Company, said the police.
According to the police, Badal was influenced by videos related to a criminal gang on YouTube.
On 23 June Mohan Dass, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase-3, and employed as a Manager with Alukka Gold Palace, Mayur Pankaj Plaza, received a call from an unknown person claiming to be a member of a criminal gang, demanding Rs. 5,00,000 (5 Lakhs) as ransom. Consequently, a case was registered case under sections 387/507 of IPC at the Police Station Ghazipur.
According to DCP East Apoorva Gupta, based on technical surveillance and further investigation, a trap was laid in Smriti Van, MayurVihar, Phase -3. At about 2:00 pm, a person wearing a navy blue T-shirt and blue lower was apprehended.
Upon his cursory search, the mobile phone used in the commission of the crime was recovered. Additionally, another mobile phone used to search for the mobile numbers of jewellers on Google was found.
The person was identified as Badal Kumar Pathak.
He used one of his old keypad phones for this purpose and borrowed a SIM card from his friend Rahul to make the calls. The accused called the owners of several jewellery shops in Mayur Vihar, threatening to kill them.
Many of these jewellers are being traced, and several have not yet joined the investigation. The accused’s connection with the criminal gang is under scrutiny, however, nothing has been substantiated so far. Further investigation is ongoing, said the police. (ANI)
