Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 28 (ANI): As Assam observed ‘Deshbhakta Diwas’ today, state minister Pijush Hazarika explained the reason behind the celebration and said the Assam Government observes the death anniversary of Tarun Ram Phukan as ‘Deshbhakta Diwas’.
Speaking with media persons, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika said, “Some leaders from Assam played a big role in the independence of our nation. Tarun Ram Phukan and Gopinath Bordoloi were among those leaders…The people of Assam call Tarun Ram Phukan a ‘Deshbhakta’…Our government observes the death anniversary of Tarun Ram Phukan as ‘Deshbhakta Diwas’…”
Deshbhakti Diwas is celebrated in Assam on July 28 every year to commemorate the death anniversary of freedom fighter Tarun Ram Phukan. The day is observed in various districts of Assam, including Kamrup, South Salmara-Mankachar, and Dhubri.
